An e-mail from "David", after the Ann Arbor Observer article:
<<I'm sorry you have lost your home and property. It seems to me that you
were pretty reckless with your finances and now you are confronted with the
consequences of your fiscal irresponsibility. Instead of publicly whining and
lobbying for someone to bail you out, pick yourself up and get on with your
life. Millions of others with less wherewithal than you have done it. So can
you>>
My response:
<<David,
I can understand how you got your impression of me, but the immediate
response I received from the Observer article was from friends and
supporters reassuring me that " it wasn't that bad..." and "people who know
you, know better." The jumbled history of my finances, although essentially
correct in many ways, was hopelessly disorganized and implied connections
that do not exist. It also failed to make clear an actual key unifying incident
whose significance Jim Leonard failed to grasp.
Your e-mail is the first, and only, negative response.
I am NOT whining for someone to bail me out. And you're right, I do have the
means to take care of myself and I am doing so. What I am continuing to rail
against is the obscene manner - much of which hasn't been publicized - in
which Destiny-98 has pursued their goals: they have no constructive
concrete plans for 1960 except to turn an easy profit, they have no capacity to
do better with it than I, and the geo-political realities that surround 1960 are
such that, no matter what blather Doug Gale (or Mike Thompson, the local
realtor) puts forth, I was, in actual fact, making the best use possible with the
property. All Destiny-98 will do is spoil what I and others started, and
turn a working enterprise and home into an unbuildable, empty lot.
I am, and have always been, prepared and able to pay Destiny-98 a fair market
price to buy back 1960, but, although they have not outright refused to deal
with me, they have made any negotiation impossible to start since Mr Gale
refuses to acknowledge the realities of the property's worth. He simply
doesn't respond to fact-based challenges to his inflated view of it's value.
Currently (10-07) he has it listed for sale at $200K as a prime location lot,
implying that it is suitable for development in the near future, a
characterization that my advising realtors - in fact ALL local realtors I've
spoken to who are familiar with the details, except possibly Mike Thompson -
find ridiculous. Listing:

At some point I will post a detailed response on SupportBeal, but for the
moment I am too busy with teaching and fulfilling my commission work
contracts. Check back in later, if you're interested.
And I do value your e-mail, even if critical, since it means that someone IS
paying attention.

BTW, the "possibly

the future....don't be fooled.
From the opening paragraph of the original website:
<<This site contains and connects to information concerning
Destiny-98, also known as REO America, TransAm Tax Certificate etc,
etc's attempt to foreclose on 1960 S Maple Rd, Ann Arbor Michigan and
the resulting legal dispute and public reaction.>>
Destiny-98 paid less than $6000 for 1960 S. Maple. How much are they expecting YOU to pay?

Letter to the Ann Arbor News, published 12-25-07, re article in 12-
14-07 issue:
In catching up with the News today, the fate of 1211 Wright St hit home.
As a contractor, woodwright, furnituremaker, builder and teacher, I’ve been on
the fringes of Ann Arbor real estate for many years and I’ve seen all sides of the
quandary the Lucases found themselves in. It’s hard when everything leads to
the conclusion that something cannot be salvaged. Their solution is at least
respectful and one I’ve advised clients to adopt when faced by a similar
historical loss.
But the phrase “demolition by neglect” jumped out and the irony, for those
readers who are familiar with my situation from April 15th’s News article, is
almost mocking since in this current issue of the News, under the classifieds for
Farms and Acreage, headed with the banner “Must Sell” is a listing for 1960 S
Maple, a property that is clearly falling victim to “demolition by neglect.” So much
for “good things for the community.”

"It's amazing how few people
look beyond the first page of a
website."
Statistics bear that out...
Although, as John Jacquemin is fond of saying,
people in the tax lien business aren't "kicking
old ladies out on the street", the record is a bit
different.
Well, maybe not ALL old ladies. Maybe just
anyone who can't fight back...
Aside from what one of his colleagues, Destiny-98/REO America, has
unquestionably done to me and my daughter, here's a link to a
disabled vet the Salta Group (another colleague of Jacquemin and
Destiny-98) seemed to be happy to help "out":
And here's a couple auctions they
were caught rigging, pleading
innocence all the way:

Today the chicken house was burned down without a permit for a
structure fire.
The barn/workshop continues to be worked on without a building
permit.
The listed owner as of today in the Washtenaw County property
records is no longer Destiny-98 but Rebuild America Inc which is
just another company run by, or closely allied to Douglas Q Gale.
They share the same Altamonte Springs, FL, office address...
same as that for REO America.
These small companies are innumerable and deliberately
structured to be hard to trace, but they are repeatedly found
associated in the public record.
Rebuild America is a shell to which properties are passed to
whitewash them of their real origins and, by means of this
apparent "sale" transaction, make the property appear of
marketable value.
It has nothing to do whatever with the U.S. Department
of Energy’s Rebuild America Program.
At some point it will no longer be worthwhile trying to re-acquire
the property.
