National Tax Lien Association Announces New Officers, Habitat For Humanity Initiative

PENSACOLA, Fla., Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The Board of Directors for the
National Tax Lien Association (NTLA) recently announced its selection of
Officers for 2001-2002.  James P. Meeks, President of Mooring Tax Asset Group,
will serve as NTLA President.  Mr. Meeks is a principal and cofounder of
Mooring Tax located in Vienna, Virginia.  NTLA Vice President will be Mr.
James F. Truitt, President of Tax Certificate Consultants headquartered in
Lutherville, Maryland.  He is the former Assistant Attorney General for the
state of Maryland and has served as legal advisor to several corporations
engaged in tax certificate investments.
Vinay K. Jessani, Vice President for M.D. SASS Investor Services, Inc.,
will fill the post of Treasurer.  Mr. Jessani founded the tax lien investment
division at M.D. SASS where he is responsible for managing all aspects of
their tax lien portfolio.  He is based in their Manhattan office.
Kenneth A. Treadwell, Executive Vice President and Corporate General
Counsel for Capital Asset Research Corp., will serve as NTLA Secretary.  Mr.
Treadwell has nearly 30 years experience with REITS and tax lien portfolios.
Howard C. Liggett, Executive Director for the National Tax Lien
Association, stated the newly elected Board was committed to continuing and
enhancing the member-directed services of education, research, advocacy, and
legislative monitoring.  Liggett stated, "As a trade association, the NTLA is
maturing and gaining strength, not only in terms of new membership but in
terms of issues to be addressed.  For example, the association is now active
politically and has begun working with lobbying firms in selected
jurisdictions.
"On the public relations front, we are in the beginning stages of an
organization-to-organization relationship with Habitat for Humanity
International Headquartered in Americus, Georgia.  The concept is really quite
simple.  NTLA investor members have REO inventories that are expensive to
maintain.  Habitat for Humanity has constant demand for homes and vacant
parcels upon which homes for their clients can be constructed.  By working
together, the NTLA members
can divest themselves of properties which do not
serve their interests
and contribute these structures and parcels to an
organization highly respected for its efforts to provide the most basic of
human needs, namely, shelter for families."
The NTLA is the nation's only trade association representing the interests
and legislative agenda of institutional tax lien investors.  "This will be a
real win-win relationship for both organizations," Liggett added.
