You seem like a nice guy. I am sure you will find something better. It's really too
bad but the lesson here is not to investors, it is to pay your taxes. All this guy had
to do is pay his taxes and he had years to do it. Don't pay lawyers to fight your
case just pay the city what you owe. This is one side of the story and the
investor's side needs to be heard. I would guess that there is more to it if the
investors REALLY want it. Take some personal responsibility. I also enjoy
woodworking.
Here are the comments that have

my reply:

Unless you identify yourself explicitly, I must assume this is an
e-mail from supposedly a real person but actually a party to the
lien industry.
No one acquainted with the details of the takeover of 1960 has
taken the "investor's" side. "Investor" is in quotes since even
our County Treasurer has chosen to label them predators.
They DO NOT have a better plan for the property: so far, they are
merely destroying what value it has, trying to realize their
fantasy that it can be developed.

Heartbreaking story. A decent fellow gets messed
up by the system.
jumpwedge, 12-12-07

I'm just a guy from AZ but that's irrelevant. This guy had YEARS to pay
his taxes. He failed to pay his fair share for schools, roads, and
emergency medical services leaving it up to others to shoulder his
burden. When governmental laws result in foreclosure, he cries
about it. Take responsibility. If you rip off the gov. year after year
sooner or later it is going to catch up to you. I would be interested in
hearing you reply to the facts. I don't know many people who feel bad
for tax evaders.
my reply:

Facts?
For just a guy...you sure know the BS used to make it sound like
local governments would fall apart without tax lien sales.
Fact: the
usual prop tax delinquency rate is <3%. Ask any business
owner if they couldn't deal with that.
I paid my taxes 30+ years, missing ONE year for which Destiny-98
took my home to no good purpose. I even paid taxes for years D-98
should have paid them.
I've NEVER complained about the LAWS, but how incompetently,
destructively, agents like D-98 operate.

The property needs to blacklisted until it is returned to its
rightful owner.I hope the community gets it out to all real
estate people that the property was taken in the manner
it was.
jacklass1, 09-07:

The refusal of the firm to name a reasonable price so that Mr. Beal
might re-purchase the property demonstrates the kind of
dog in the
manger
attitude of the principles. The property cannot be developed
as they supposed it might be. There is no reason not to take a
reasonable profit and sell it back to a man who has built a life and a
business there. Yet they stubbornly refuse to heed the opinion of the
community that Peter Beal has served for so many years.
faeriegloaming, 08-07:

I know this man. He used to keep chickens at 1960 Maple
as a hobby, and my kids and I used to go there to get fresh
eggs. He is one of those guys who is truly the "salt of the
earth". These people who have thrown him out are money
grubbing monsters. Shame!
jumpwedge, 12-13-07

I have spent a couple hours reading this poor guys story.
The more I read the more commpassion I feel. What
happened is terrible but it is all legal. I do wish REO would
strike with Beal so he could keep his house and satisfy
their investors. BTW, this guys furniture is awesome. He
has some amazing talent.
my reply:

No, wait, there’s more to say:
I’ve NEVER said what they did was ILLEGAL, but it was destructive,
ignorant and incompetent.
Years ago they knew enough to know that there was no profit in
1960, but they dispossessed me anyway rather than settle.
Why else are they now running an ad in the Ann Arbor News that
reads “MUST SELL” “MAKE OFFER-cash buyers only!...(877)339-
1108”? This is not the ad of a confident to profit operation….

Did you not listen? I am not sure where you get YEARS from.
He did not pay taxes for one year due to waiting for an appeal
to be heard? Perhaps you should actually listen to his story.
My advice to you: don't be concerned with us in Michigan,
save your judgmental comments for your fellow Arizona
residents. Already, I have lost 5 minutes of my life that I can't
get back. How about this-contact the investors--I am sure they
would love to hear your opinions and concern for them.
jumpwedge, 12-13-07

You might want to review my comment because I didn't say
say he "didn't pay for years" I said he "had years" to pay off
what he owed, but didn't. When did stating the facts
become judgemental, and you seem pretty judgemental
yourself. I will keep my comments in AZ when this guy
keeps his video in MI. Where is the tolerance? I think
Peter is a great guy but REO abided by the law and Peter
didn't.
cory1971 12-12-07

My family and I know Peter and find this situation appalling.
You have our support and we will continue sending
everyone we know information of your situation. Don't
bother even replying anymore to his comments, you will be
talking above his head.
jumpwedge, 12-13-07

REO is bringing back the highest return for its investors
they can, and following MI state law in doing it. I expect my
investment firm to follow the law and make my money
grow, don't you? What happened to Peter is sad. When a
small child burns their finger it's sad but if they are playing
with fire it is expected. Not paying your taxes is like
lighting a match. Watch your fingers!
